Ծնվել է 1943 թվականին Դելիում, Հնդկաստանի ազգային-ազատագրական շարժման առաջնորդ Բիջու Պատնայիկի ընտանիքում, որը 1961-1963 և 1990-1995 թվականներին եղել է Օդիշա նահանգի գլխավոր նախարար[6][7]։

Գիտա Մեհտան ավարտել է Քեմբրիջի համալսարանը[6][7]։

1970-1971 թվականներին եղել է ամերիկյան NBC հեռուստաալիքի ռազմական թղթակից[8]։ Հանդիսացել է 14 վավերագրական ֆիլմի պրոդյուսեր և ռեժիսոր, որոնք արտադրվել են եվրոպական երկրներում, ինչպես նաև ԱՄՆ-ում։ Ամուսնացած է «Sonny Mehta» հրատարակչության ղեկավար Ալֆրեդ Ա. Նոպֆի հետ։ Ապրել է Նյու Յորքում, Լոնդոնում և Դելիում։

Հնդկական մշակույթի և պատմության թեմաների մասին նրա գրքերը թարգմանվել են 21 լեզվով և դարձել բեսթսելլերներ Եվրոպայում, ԱՄՆ-ում և Հնդկաստանում։

Գիտա Մեհտան մահացել է 2023 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 16-ին[9]։
