Français : Les armoiries de Meyrin furent adoptées par le conseil municipal le 11 novembre 1924 et approuvées le 28 novembre de la même année par le conseil d'État. |
| Object history |
Français : Ces armoiries figurent l'union des villages de la commune: Meyrin, Mategnin et Cointrin, par la juxtaposition des armes des anciennes familles de Meyrin et de Livron. Les de Meyrin possédaient en effet une maison forte au centre actuel de Meyrin. Leur sceau de 1314 portant une épée et deux croissants adossés est indiqué dans l'Armorial de Califfe. Les de Livron, famille éteinte, à la fois gessienne et genevoise, possédèrent la seigneurie des villages de Cointrin et Mategnin aux XVIème et XVIIème siècle. Ses couleurs choisies, vert et rouge pour le champ de l'écu, sont les couleurs traditionnelles de la commune. Meyrin fut cédé à Genève par le traité de Paris du 20 novembre 1815. |
