Կենսագրություն

Ծնվել է Մելբուռնում հրեաների ընտանիքում, որը հեռացել է նացիստների կողմից բռնակցված Ավստրիայից 1938 թվականին։ Դպրոցն ավարտելուց հետո ընդունվել Է Մելբուռնի համալսարան, որտեղ սովորել է իրավունք, պատմություն և փիլիսոփայություն։ 1969 թվականին ստացել է մագիստրոսի կոչում «Ինչո՞ւ ես պետք է լինեմ բարետես» (անգլ.՝ Why should I be moral?) աշխատության համար։ Կրթաթոշակով ուսումը շարունակել է Օքսֆորդի համալսարանում և 1971 թվականին ստացել փիլիսոփայության բակալավրի աստիճան (անգլ.՝ B.Phil.) քաղաքացիական անհնազանդության մասին աշխատելու համար։

Ակադեմիական շրջանակներից դուրս Սինգերն առավել հայտնի է որպես «Animal Liberation» գրքի հեղինակ, որը դարձել է կենդանիների ազատագրման շարժման անկյունաքարը։ «A Darwinian Left» գրքում պաշտպանում է այն տեսակետը, որ մարդու բնական էվոլյուցիոն հոգեբանությունը փոխկապակցված է ձախ քաղաքական սարքերի հետ։ «Քաղց, բարգավաճում և բարոյականություն» հոդվածում քննարկվում է համաշխարհային սովի դեմ պայքարի խնդիրը ուտիլիտարիստական դիրքերից։
