English: A medical evacuation of a critically ill patient was undertaken by the Southern Naval Command (SNC) from Agatti in Lakshadweep island on 02 March 2018. The request for medical evacuation of the patient, Ms Cheriabi of age 48 yrs belonging to Kavaratti was received by Naval authorities from the administration of L&M islands (UTL) during the day on 02 March 2018. The patient, who was seriously ill and comatose due to brain hemorrhage was in need of urgent medical evacuation to the mainland.

A Naval Dornier was immediately launched, with naval medical personnel embarked, to evacuate the patient from Agatti (where the patient was brought by the UTL using Pawan Hans Helicopter) to Kochi. Naval Liaison Team at Agatti provided assistance in transferring the patient and her relatives Hussain Ali (38 yrs), Mariyommabi (40 yrs) and Kunhidi (62 yrs) to the aircraft. The patient, along with escorting family members embarked, were brought to Naval Base, Kochi by 5:00 pm and handed over over to the UTL medical team for admission to civil hospital.}

The quick and smooth transfer of the patient from the island region to the mainland was possible due to active coordination between The UTL administration and Naval Officer in Charge (Lakshadweep & Minicoy), in consultation with HQSNC and reinforced the navy’s commitment to proactive response in aid of civil authorities.
